REVIEW: Mars Red Sky

Psychedelic Stoner Rock from France

The French Mars Red Sky has managed to put out one of those WOW-albums that comes two or three times a year! A word that comes to mind is; melancholy, super psychedelic and VERY tasty. After releasing the debut ep 'Cursed' earlier this year Mars Red Sky serves this master blaster on a silver plate! You get seven beautifully carved heavy psyche/stoner gems in almost 40 minutes. This is no mediocrity, rather a first class acid trip through the red dunes of Mars. No slips are made and every tone is carefully sewn into this magic carpet that offers a breathtaking journey through time and space.

Mars Red Sky launches their first rocker towards the peak of the holy mountain, the full-featured 'Strong Reflections' is on the agenda and the sun shines stronger than ever! Imagine that Colour Haze, The Machine and Kyuss teams up and cooking up the century's most magical mushroom stew. You get heaps of atmospheric deep dives and stylish arrangements, and on top of that an impassioned voice that will make anyone to shed a tear. The second act 'Curse' rolls in the same direction, perhaps not as amazing as its predecessor, but is still better than some bands manage to accomplish.

On the third act 'Falls' Mars Red Sky delivers a beautifully intertwined instrumental, And the guys clearly show that practice makes perfect. Once again you get vibes of both Colour Haze and The machine, along with loads of the "Martian" sound. If I get to choose the 'Way to Rome' (fourth act), I would choose the route which the French are taking! This track is absolutely one of my favourites on the album. Way to Rome is a real happy event that touches all the good things in life, and contains everything a great stoner song should have!

The last two gems on the album 'Marble Sky' and 'Up The Stairs' is like being hurled into space. To float weightless around the universe without any worries. These mammoths forking their way through the soundscapes, while the guys in Mars Red Sky jumps in as no.2 on my top ten list of great albums this year! (so far).

REVIEW: The Grand Astoria - Omnipresence

PsychedelicRock from The Russian Federation
The Grand Astoria - Mania Grandiosa

Culling their sound from a vast variety of influences, The Grand Astoria presents Omnipresence, a mixture of dirty garage rock, stoner grooves, acid rock vibes and some sneering, leering punk rock vocals. Kinda like a kid in a candy store who wants a bit of everything, they throw all these sounds into a paper bag to produce a pretty decent nine-track effort.

“Doomsday Party” gets things off to a brisk start, a fuzzy, punky number that sounds kinda like The Hellacopters fronted by Johnny Rotten and ends with a bang—literally. “Hungry & Foolish” slows things down a tad, while adding some spaceship soloing and Hammond organ into the mix. “Mania Grandiosa” takes things down another notch into desert rock territory with plenty of echoplex on the vox before turning into an all-out psychedelic freakout.

After a mellow interlude in “Omniabsent,” they get right back into the rock with “Rat Race in Moscow.” This race is more of a marathon than a sprint with its rolling mid-paced grooves and super-distorted vocals, a heavily-overdriven radio-friendly rocker. “Something Wicked This Way Comes” is a strange prog rock opus that kinda detracts from the rest of the tunes, IMO, but still has its moments, some inspired soloing over a galloping NWOBHM bassline—though I could do without the movie sound effects.

A regal rockin' effort from a great new band, with a ton of varied tunes and omnipresent distortion, The Grand Astoria has won me over with their twisted take on heavy psychedelic music. Worth seeking this one out. Email the band to get yourself a copy here thegrandastoria@gmail.com

REVIEW: Void Generator - Phantom Hell and Soar Angelic

HeavyRock from Italy
Void Generator - Message From The Galactic Federation (edit)

After several years out in space in search for inspiration Void Generator now returns to mother Earth with a new album named ‘Phantom Hell and Soar Angelic’.
Void Generator generates anything but bad mainstream music, and just as the title predicts; this is a phantom hell, but in a good way! These Italian space men have managed to put out one ep and an album called ‘We have found the space’ a few years back in time, in other words ’Phantom hell...’ is their third attempt to conquer the universe.

‘Phantom hell...’ is a space odyssey divided into four monstrous acts in over 70 mesmerizing minutes of heavy psyche and space rock with some stoner elements thrown in. Void Generator has really succeeded in capturing the beauty and the beast at the same time, and has crafted an almost impenetrable barrier of innovative riff magic.
If you’re into bands like Hawkwind, First Band From Outer Space, Magic Lantern and Litmus as well as heavier acts like Colour Haze, Insider and Datura, then ‘Phantom Hell and Soar Angelic’ will turn you into an astronaut in no time just begging to be deferred into thin air! I will listen to this phantom hell over and over again ‘till my ears fall off, and I suggest you do the same!

These gents are currently looking for venues all over Europe (or worldwide) please help them out, and they will turn your country into a cosmic inferno even if you’re not angelic!

REVIEW: Domo (Promo)

PsychedelicRock from Spain
Domo - Prana

Bong's up folks because there is a party going on in the psychedelic wonderland!

At first I thought; this is just another South American "low budget" band who is trying to hit the ceiling. About two minutes later I discovered that I was wrong! Domo isn't just another mediocre band but a real pleasure and if you are looking for a good "soundtrack" to your bong this is it!

Domo's debut demo (promo) contains seven heavy super psychedelic and experimental rock acts, and you get over an hour of sweetness and trippy soundscapes. There haven't been much good music from this part of the world lately and bands like Los Natas and Buffalo seems to have vanished from the face of the earth, well Natas is still putting out a tune or two that is worthy the ears, that's about it. Domo have broken the silence and proves that there is a new sheriff in town, so move over you fossils.

Even though all the songs are almost completely instrumental you never get tired of it and the gorgeous riffs literally come out of the speakers as a free-flowing acid syrup. Just the smell of it makes you high and as I said before; this slays! Domo is not preaching the usual stoner rock, as Kyuss and Fu Manchu etc, but these gentlemen offer a more acid-drenched dessert and are experimenting with jazz, blues and psyche. But calm folks, there are also some heavy fuzz immersed in the batter, enough to make even the heaviest guys to jump high... just press play and enjoy the ride!

Domo opens with 'Nadi' and almost immediately I get pleasing shivers and my ears buckling of delight. Bands like Colour Haze and The Machine comes to mind, and just like these dignities Domo knows how to enchant one's mind without leaving the smallest nerve unmoved. There are mountains of atmospheric deep dives, and the effect pedals have to work hard to please these brainiacs who only demand the best. The second act 'Prana' is a more stoner oriented mixture of psyche and acid rock with some vocals thrown in (a few words) that almost spans a 12-minute line. Once again you get a professional treatment of first-class riffs that makes every minute enjoyable. Other tracks worth mentioning are the ear pounding 'Asura', the relaxing ''Yamantaka' and the last trip, 'Samsara'. All three tracks are running in the same superior style without losing spark, although here you're greeted by intricate and beautifully composed riffs รก la heavy psyche de luxe.

My advice to you is; GRAB IT!

REVIEW: Blue Aside - The Orange Tree

PsychedelicDoom from the USA
Blue Aside - Otis' Sun

Although Palace in Thunderland weren't household names outside of the Boston area during their seven-year run, their demise has produced a couple of trios that are breathing fresh air into a stagnant stoner doom scene. One of these bands is a group you mighta heard of by the name of Black Pyramid. The other is Blue Aside who, judging by the strength of the material on this five-song EP, will soon carve out their own niche with their heavy space rock vibes.

Opening track “The Traveller of Time and Space” sucks you in with swirling guitars over a heavy bottom end. The vocals, which take two minutes to arrive, go from low and guttural at the start to high-pitched and robotic, with a spacey sludge chorus and a winding keyboard outtro.

“Otis' Sun” is a tribute to my favourite local band, at least in name, although you get the feeling that these guys smoke up to Hawkwind more often than Hendrix. Following track “Orange Eyes” is much more OTIS-like, a slow, driving sludge riff blazing the way, albeit with some out-of-this-planet guitar interludes, Adam Abrams achieving a cosmic guitar tone to match his astronautic vocal stylings. This is space rock for the 21st century.

“Black Rays” is the slowest song of the five, a pounding, pummelling slice of cosmic doom with some serious psychedelic breakdowns and its fair share of Pentagram worship. “The Inevitable Journey” brings the EP to its inevitable conclusion, in grandiose YOB fashion.

Where as other sludge bands who deal in cosmic themes, like Zoroaster and The Atlas Moth, use harsh black-metal vocals to get their message across, Abrams' warm, clean tones give Blue Aside a big boost. Their deftly executed blending of sludgy doom grooves with spacy guitar (and occasional synth) passages provides the missing link between Sleep and Hawkwind, YOB and Captain Beyond, Sons of OTIS and Secret Saucer... You get the idea. As an initial artistic statement, The Orange Tree succeeds immensely. (I was gonna say “goes where no band has gone before” but that's just lame. Feel free to add your own “To infinity and beyond” “One small step for a band” cliches if you must...)

REVIEW: Green & Wood - Green & Wood

PsychedelicRock from the USA
Green & Wood

And we know, ash falls from the sky, when a volcano angers. Patient men wait... To see the fallout of the great scene. It is heavy, and when it starts, it does so, with a furious roar, a blast that makes people notice. The process starts slow and deep, and builds...rises to the top, and begins its journey into the dark, heavy molten...it's dark and repetitive. It's nothing new but alas, it is something still so unique. The Banquet of Jupiter is this... a transmission from the volcano's core....

It starts its push, it's fearless, tearing, and smashing everything in its way... It's Rockin' Real Hard. You see it on its path of destruction. We as the people can feel its power, overwhelming; you watch the fear in the other's eyes. Panic... damn it's just too awesome to stray ... it's captured your mind.

As it careens down the hill, it mesmerizes everything in its way. We feel the bass of the earth, shake...drawn to the volcano's power, it unleashes its Ashes of the Heathen Corpse. It has taken natures gifts, its life, all in its way. Do we run, Face the inevitable doom? Clouds of the ashen sky punish those above. Silence in the air. It is yet slow & hard, but oh so heavy and raw. The sky above is dead. The war in the sky has started ... blood in the clouds, thick smoke, no chance for the air and its grave.

Now I see fear kick in, people all around running in all directions. A power so beautiful to see, nature's construction of fear, finally the molten lava has crossed down the slopes of the dead rock. It's on its course; it's ready to release the juggernaut of heat on the ground below. No wall of sound can compare to the absolute beauty of the power on hand. It is the people's darkest hour.

What you once might have called you castle is no longer an object of desire. Memories lost, new memories gained. How can you fault the cycle of life that surrounds us all? It's heavy, unique, and punishing to the soul. My ears hear the sounds of music not heard since the times that past many moons ago. This is what we call Green and Wood. A wall of sound, that travels slow, heavy... punishing riffs... It's got its own magic. Sure it may have it similarities with years past, but it holds onto its vision oh so well. It molten, its lava... It's heat to its core.

You wanna get punished, feel stoned, fall down the well of doom...and be pleasantly surprised. Then Green and Wood will get you there.

REVIEW: Atlantic Tide - Bad Acid Queen 7"

PsychedelicRock from Sweden
Atlantic Tide - Eyestroids

A supersonic whirlwind of fuzzadelic sweetness sweeps through my ears and makes me shudder with delight. It's not every day my ear drums feast on such blissful tones like these... Freddie has done it again!

The guys in Atlantic Tide are no rookies. Freddie for example, has been playing in bands like Terra Firma, Harms Way, Unleashed, Loudpipes and Born Of Fire. Izmo took care of the drum kit in Terra Firma and Stabel has been rubbing guitar strings in Blackshine.

The two tracks on the debut 7-inch were meant as a demo but High Roller records got interested in the band and wanted to put them on plastic, which was a really good move. 500 copies are made and to all vinyl nerds out there I would like to say that this release is available in both green and black color (150 green/350 black).

If you have any idea what music is about, you can clearly hear who is behind the distinctive riffs, which in my opinion is a feast for the ears. The songs are neatly arranged and literally bursting with intricate melodies, especially 'Eyestroids' which could just as easily have been a Terra Firma /Harms Way tune. This is the first time ever that Freddie sings in a band and it sounds great, even though it may seem a bit tentative at times. But who cares, as long as the Atlantic tides are flowing into my ears I am more than happy.

On the flip side you will find the title track 'Bad Acid Queen' which is more like a mix between stoner and acid rock. Once again you get to know the strength of this Swedish power trio who has the ability to transform metal into gold, and I must say that the drummer is an absolute beast. You cannot find a drummer more accurate than this! ;-) I will listen to this great release for the next 24 h and bang my head against the wall like some crazy heavy metal freak, hopefully there will be an album in the near future. Atlantic Tide certainly takes the fruit out of the loom and even manages to squeeze juice out of dry fruits...from now on I will have Atlantic Tide written all over my chest.

DEMOLAND: Stangala - Lutun Salvia Delirium

Psychedelic Stoner RocK from France
Stangala - Erin Tomm

The story began in the year of 2007, when 3 modern Celtic druids gathered somewhere in the mystical woods of Kemper, France. In order to explore other paths of the space-time continuum and finally reach the land of the korrigans, they used their magical knowledge and begun the preparation of potions with psychedelic powers.

Lead under the influence of the great green smoke, rites were inspired by the legacy of the great ancients, such as the mighty Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly, or the young Queens Of The Stone Age, but also by more local and traditional knowledge, of which Brittany, as a Celtic land, is full.

First results did not take long to come, and an initiative trip was planned after just a few weeks, thanks to a set of nine songs named "...dans les bois" (translate "..in the woods") For download on their MySpace page. The druids gained some notoriety and assurance and, after several public ceremonies, they released a new book of magic spells called LSD, or the delirium of the Salvia dwarf.

Today, the druids are gathering secretly once again, consuming even more drugs in their cauldrons in order to, eventually, introduce the world to a path towards a whole new dimension...

REVIEW: Marble Sheep - Green

PsychedelicRock from Japan
Marble Sheep - Through The Window

Lying in the heat, sweating... dead birds flying, outside, dark clouds turn with a touch of white, now overtaking.... I lay here, only to soak up the sweat now that I have pissed, the sun soon to dry my body. The strumming of a guitar, Marble Sheep opens my eyes, the crowd around me in a trance, the band has started us on a journey, a New Horizon.

A slow jam, heavy psych, words come across at the 9 minute mark, but the music is what is important here... mesmerizing the audience, keeping us all safe. A perfect beginning, dual guitars over lapping each other, the drums soft yet ready to explode. A feeling of what was once, a time long ago, the music of this opening song, has started us on our way.

Through the Window is another nice slow jam, reminiscent of an earlier Neil Young voyage. Slow feedback guitars, in the mood drums, a late 60's aura wrapped around a current band calling out to yesterday's better times. As the show continues, Marble Sheep break off into an up-tempo instrumental, the Secret Chief II. Again they display their heavy psych feedback guitars for a panicked 4 mins. It's the heaviest, noisiest moment on this record, in this show.

As quickly as the music was breaking down the walls, suddenly a Perfect Ocean arrives, a beautiful instrumental acoustic number, it opens the sky full, sets the sun at its peak. It creates the softest moment for Marble Sheep here. Finally we come to the end of the show, and the crowd is ready. The Rabbit In The Moon, feedback forced full out heavy psych, drawn out voices, a continuation of the theme of this record of this show.

Marble Sheep, Green, is a record shaped in the late 60's, early 70's. With it's slowed down, yet heavy paced feedback, one comes to think of the days past, when bands were into psychedelic(s) & played heavy psychedelic music. Would I consider this to be a mellow affair? Yes, but with a heavy groove, loose jam freestyle form of creativity. it's one of the better "retro" albums one can hear & should hear.

DEMOLAND: Blue Aside

Psychedelic Doom from the USA
Blue Aside - Traveler of Time and Space

In all fairness, Blue Aside is comprised of two guys that I used to play with during my Palace In Thunderland daze, Adam Abrams and Matt Netto, along with Joe Twomey on bass. Although Adam handled bass in Palace, he picks up the guitar and handles a lot of the vocals, and he does a fairly deft job of laying down some intense psychedelic soundscapes that recall Electric Wizard, Saint Vitus, Sons Of Otis, Hawkwind, early Pink Floyd, and even a bit of Dinosaur Jr. in the fuzzed and effected out guitar noodling. These two tunes offer up some heavy riffs and solid melodies, along with some fairly eccentric changes and arrangements to keep things interesting.

Fans of the heavy aren't going to be disappointed, as some of these riffs are as heavy and doomed as anything you'll find out there these days, but these three sonic sorcerers really shine on the psychedelic parts, which are more deft, progressive and zonked out than you'll usually find in a lot of acts with similar influences. "Otis' Sun" alternates between painfully longing, delicately beautiful melodies and crushing waves of downtuned Sabbath worship. It's the band's finest moment, with a sharp contrast in vocal s t y l es, featuring effected guttural death growls during the heavier sections. To be honest, this was unexpected, as was the overall heaviness of these two songs. The other song, "The Traveler of Time And Space" is more an introduction to the band, while "Otis" is definitely their piece de resistance and statement of intent, but both songs show excellent potential for growth and a unique spin on a tried and true sound.

Best of all, you can download their demo, they provide a link on their Myspace. I've gotta say, this comes highly recommended, fans of the early Yob material are going to eat this up...

INTERVIEW: Cosmic Trip Machine

Psychedelia from Belgium

Interview by John Wisniewski

When was Cosmic Trip Machine formed and what brought the members of the group together?

Will Z.: It was in early 2008. Majnun and I played together in a band.We planned to record an album at NoHype Studio, but the group split up. The day it happened, we made two decisions, we decided to carry on alone because the studio was booked and we found the Cosmic Trip Machine name, rummaging through my records.

Could you name some of your influences in music and film?

Majnun: We are horror, exploitation and B-movies fans. We love movies like Wicker Man, Suspiria, More and The Holy Mountain to name a very few, including their soundtrack. Morricone 70's giallo music is another inspiration.

Could you tell us about Vampyros Roussos. Was it intended to be a concept album like Lord Space Devil?

Will Z.: The funny thing is Lord Space Devil wasn’t intended to be a concept album first. The first idea was to record two separate EP. Majnun had some musical concepts and I had Lord Space Devil, a never-completed project started in December 2000. Quickly, we discovered the songs sound great melted into and make a good LP: the concept came after. It was the opposite for Vampyros Roussos. Since the beginning, this album was an imaginary soundtrack to an unmade film.

Are the members of the group inspired by occult subjects?

Will Z.: It intrigues me how the brain is fascinated with the mysterious and the unknown. It’s pure philosophy and poetry.

Majnun: I'm interested by the way people try to reach different states of consciousness and by the strength of the will.

Do you improvise during your performances and do you enjoy playing live, giving the audience and light show-visuals?

Majnun: We improvise a lot during our shows : that's a good way to find new ideas for others future projects and something very natural to do, trying to connect with others and yourself.

What future projects are planned?

Will Z.: Two versions (CD & LP) of our third album, The Curse of Lord Space Devil, will be released, during December, on the great Nasoni Records label, so we’re very excited. We’re touring with a formula we called Kosmische Kraut Maschine, devoted to the experimental rock scene appeared in Germany during the sixties, with vintage drum machine sounds (the Harmonia and Kraftwerk one), Moog, organ, mellotron and glissando guitar. We have recorded a new version of Mantra song (on Lord Space Devil album) for a psychedelic compilation with only Belgian bands. We’ll begin to record our fourth album during December.

Is there currently an interest in psychedelia from the 60's, and what makes this music so popular, that it survives to this day?

Majnun: Well, personally, I'm not involved enough into today musical scene to tell you if there's a big interest in psychedelia, but I can tell you this music pass the test of time. Curious and music lovers will always find something in there. It has such a unique vibe and attitude.

Why do you combine an interest in film and music?

Will Z.: We have a cinematographic approach. Our music evokes images to our listeners.

Majnun: It seems natural to us. All the things you are come to light when you play music.

Do you enjoy the films of such directors as Alejandro Jodorowsky and what you may call «trip» film that provides the audience with a trip-like feeling?

Will Z.: Yes, and that’s why our music is heavily influenced by this kind of movies. Lord Space Devil had strong references to giallo, western and horror B movies. Vampyros Roussos was an imaginary 70's psychedelic erotic horror soundtrack inspired by Vampyros Lesbos, Psych-Out, Suspiria, Carnival of Souls, The Holy Mountain and many more.

Majnun: Jodorowsky is a great inspiration to us, with also El Topo. A true master in visual arts.

Could you give us a list of your favorite albums of all-time?

Will Z.: It’s a difficult question because there are so many albums I love… Pink Floyd, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn / Beatles, Abbey Road / Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath / Love, Forever Changes / Zombies,
Odessey and Oracle / Magma, Mekanik Destruktiw Kommando / Led Zeppelin, IV / Pretty Things, SF Sorrow / Beach Boys, Smile / Gong, Camembert ร‰lectrique / Doors, Waiting for the Sun / Can Am Des Puig,
Book of AM / Analogy, Analogy / Ramases, Space Hymns / Frank Zappa, Lรคther / Miles Davis, In a Silent Way … and hundreds more !

Majnun: Mahavishnu Orchestra, Inner Mounting Flame & Birds Of Fire / Led Zeppelin, I & IV / Miles Davis, Bitches brew / Deep Purple, In Rock /Jethro Tull, Thick As A Brick / Cream, Disreali Gears / Magma, MDK / Frank Zappa, Overnight Sensation

All the best Guys and Thank you for your time.

REVIEW: Buddha Sentenza - MODE 0909

PsychedelicRock from Germany
Buddha Sentenza - Noise From The Death Factory

Buddha Sentenza hailing from Germany is the perfect match of psyche, stoner and hard driven acid rock. These aces are for sure one of the best instrumental acts around, every minute of it is a treat for both body and soul!

The eight track debut album 'Mode 0909' by the young band Buddha Sentenza opens with the psychedelic 'Black Coal Funeral' 5,47 minutes long warm-up of what to come. Finely carved up atmospheric psyche riffs mixed with a good dose of blues. The second nugget 'White Crystal Party' is an acid flavoured fuzz attack just under two minute limit, I tell ya... when this kicks off the drug party is on!

The unstoppable meanmachine crushes on with yet another punch in the belly, the forceful 'Ride With The Devil' and more trippy 'Saturn' makes the whole building shiver and my speaker's whimpers in joy. I like it alot, BUT if they have put some vocals on some of it, it would have been even more interesting. I believe my neighbours are getting real angry at this point, but who cares as long as Buddha's on the world holds its breath (at least my neighbourhood).

The adrenaline pumped 'Noise From The Death Factory' and the quite obscure 'Sexual Omega' has to be my favourites on 'Mode 0909' and is definitely one of the highlights on the album. The latter is a whirlwind of noise rock and psychedelic magic, a symphony of madness with a touch of both jazz and blues. 'Sexual Omega' runs over you like a tank, a slap in the face with an intensity that makes your ears crumble... full speed at high level!

This is like rewinding time back to the years 1968-72 which makes me think of bands like Blue cheer, MC5, Virus, Juan de la cruz and not to forget the psychedelic scene at that time. You get all this (without vocals) along with a big fat stoner vibe of today. Buddha Sentenza clearly shows who's in charge, talented musicians who constantly churn out masterful riffs without holding back anything. Furious fuzz guitars with first class drumming and cool bass-lines, even some wild piano/keyboard parts are included in the arsenal. All together in (almost) 300 jerk... simply, these guys are creatures from outer space!

REVIEW: Smoking Spore - Conversations In D-Minor

PsychedelicRock from the USA
Smoking Spore - Hard Drive Explosion

Normally I would agonize over something clever to say about these cats, but their press release does it better than I ever could. So here it is in all its glory.

Conversations in D-Minor contains the entire second jam session of Houston-based Smoking Spore, improvised by the band and recorded live-in-studio by guitarist Brandon Bowers. The Album was produced by the band themselves and mixed with no overdubs, reamps, edits, second takes, drum replacement, quantization, or other frivolous foolery. The track titled "Hard Drive Explosion" was cut short by a sample rate error, but the salvaged what they had. Artwork for the album was supplied by the band's other guitarist, Beau Jackson, whose psychedelic murals haunt the Houston area.

Like a quartet of characters from some undiscovered Dr. Seuss book, Smoking Spore skips, jumps, waddles and trips their way through completely improvised psychedelic epics. The band refuses to write, relying only on instinctive short-term memory to weave a different sonic composition every time they play. To solidify the experience they film bizarre local phenomena and air them via projector during concerts. Their debut album, Conversations in D-Minor, was recorded in less than 2 hours and melted seventies-inspired acid rock with southern stoner grooves, infectious guitar melodies, piercing feedback, and modern effect-laden ambience . Since their debut, the band has incorporated a hearty buffet of new effects, an old organ, and some home-made oddities that look like they came from a mid-sixties sci-fi flick. Conversations was weird, and it appears this band will only get weirder, providing that a life in Houston's suburbs will eventually drive anyone to lunacy.

After putting my head into this disc, I must say I am completely blown away. To imagine these guys in the studio just "going for it" with no overdubs or second takes is mind-boggling; it sure doesn't sound that way. The end of track two when the hard drive poops out, is cool and obviously unintended, I bet it wasn't cool when it happened, but it totally coincides with the theme of the band. It also appears as the live show is a mind enhancing night out. These guys are tight like spandex. Fans of Colour Haze and Earthless take note. Highly Recommended.

"Pyrior" started during the year 2008 as a musician's community dedicated to jam-sessions. This jam-sessions result in a trio of a classic rock formation, Torsten Bass, Max Appeal - Guitar and Olin - Drums.

"Pyrior"s first EP was released in April 2009 and called "Pulsar". The music of"Pyrior" is a round mix of stonerrock and heavy psychedellicrock in a cosmic haze. It burns like a Pulsar and floats in an atmospheric space.

Check out Track 6 Stator with vocals ,sounds like early Sideburn mixed with some serious Smoke In Sunshine wah-wah great stuff..Enjoy

DEMOLAND: Zentraedi - Zannon

Heavy PsychedelicRock from Argentina
Zentraedi - Battleoid Lamot

Zentraedi was formed in 2002 in Neuquen, Argentina, when three all time friends from highschool got together following the idea of creating original and uplifting rock music.

Long nights in the desert of drinking and listening to heavy acts such as Tool, Deftones and Sepultura served for inspiration. They started playing Stinkfist from Tool and Roots from Sepultura and the music exploded, giving the band enough confidence to focus on their own material.

Zannon (EP) is an intense musical narration created to take you on a journey through the stars. Enjoy.

DEMOLAND: Chuter - Leaving Here

Psychedelia from the UK
Chuter - Vision

Jack Chuter is a solo musician from Basingstoke, England. His music takes influence from the guitar-driven genres of shoegaze, drone and post-metal, fuelled by his own instinctive sense of melody.

Jack began creating compositions under the title "Excido" in 2006 at the age of 16, with bands such as Pelican and Isis showing strong influence in the downtuned riffs and dynamic song structure. After two albums with this project (both free internet releases), he decided that he wanted to start afresh and pursue something new.

"Sans Sun EP" was the first release under Chuter, produced in September 2007. It put a greater focus on the use of layering, repetition and reverb, whilst still retaining the low end heaviness and deep-set melancholy.

In Summer 2008, Jack released "Leaving Here" - the first Chuter full length, and his most accomplished release so far. Vocals make a more prominent feature on this release, with ethereal hooks buried within the soundscapes, and distorted guitar riffs giving a subtle nod back to Excido.

A new release is currently in the works, and should be available sometime in August 2009.
